I used a 2x8x8 and attached the fencing to that and let it lay loose behind so that it will drag both high and low spots. It worked great for covering the oats, wheat type seed, then over seeded with the clover. A rigid gate section will only hit the high spots covering some seed and leaving some seeds uncovered. St. Clair County | You need to attach a "drag chain" to the back side of the gate to get the low places. The heavier the chain the better. Attach each end of the chain to the ends of the back side of the "drag" and let the center be dragging about 3 feet behind the center of the drag gate.

Central Alabama | I have been using a 6AWG chain link drag for over 20 years with three tires tired onto the center of the drag. It works great. On large fields we pull it with a truck but on smaller ones a 500 ATV will work fine. We try to level the field best we can with a tractor, seed it then drag it. Our plots are pretty smooth and it is all due to that drag. It is much heavier than your typical chain link fence. I have to special order a minimum of 100ft of chain link fencing whenever we need to build a new one. I have a 2x4 treated piece of wood attached to the front of the drag with eye bolts spaced evenly apart and use a chain with a loop to go over the trailer hitch. Central Alabama | We never drag the smaller seeds like clover, brassica, rape or turnips. As long as they make contact with the dirt you are ok. If you drag them they will get covered too deep.

Elmore County | Do you guys drag over your brassica and clover seeds or just your cereal grains? the only thing i would not drag over is rye grass. |
